My First Sweet Fixations Haul

Sweet Fixations is a new to me vendor who I discovered while reading a post over at my friend Deb’s blog somethingalwayz . After reading her haul of goodies and having an itch to order wax myself, I decided to poke around on SF’s site and see what all I could find.

There are many different options available to purchase whether you fancy wax tarts, shapes or samplers. I stuck with scent shots for my first order to allow me to sample more scents my first go around. Scent shots are $1.75 each. TAT is around 12 business days with shipping of $7.40 invoiced at time of shipment. As you notice in the haul, I was mostly in the mood for fall scents which is most of what I picked up with a few thrown in scents that I wanted to try and see if they would be good dupes of other vendors. Onto the goodies!

All Hallows Eve (Green)Spicy mulled grapefruit with a citrus orange note, and a sweet cinnamon vanilla twist.

Spicy, bright citrus brewed to release it’s fragrant spices to create one heck of a cider for Halloween night.

Hocus Pocus (Purple)A magical spicy blend of freshly ground cinnamon, and herbal notes of bergamot, jasmine, black tea, and patchouli.

Grated spices heavy on the cinnamon and cloves steeping deep in a dark black tea that would help awaken any ole sleepy monster.

Hayride (Yellow/Gold)Fresh hay with notes of sweet balsam combined with cedar-wood. Simply that fresh outdoor country air aroma.

I’m a sucker for hay scents around this time. Balsam, hay and cedar wood? Heck yes, bring on the outdoors! Sweet balsam is the key note that would have most smelling this think this to be a winter scent though the cedar wood adds a bit of depth and dare I say a bit of spice? Finish it off with a dusting of hay and you’ve got yourself a well rounded outdoors fragrance. Excited to melt this one!

Bewitched (Purple)Bubbly berries, mandarin, peach and more will delight the senses!

Bubbly indeed. Such a cheerful scent for any cackling witch. I’m not much for peach in scents but it somehow isn’t a dominate role stepping back while the richness of the red berries really take play and bring this scent to life with help of a little effervescent to tingle the senses.

Zombie Boyfriend (Grey)A deadly blend of cream filled cake, pumpkin waffles and fluffy marshmallow.

Mmmm! On cold this reminds me of a cereal I used to eat as a child. French Toast Crunch was it? It was really heavy on the vanilla and sticky syrup though my mom always said it smelled of cat pee.. *crickets* Though I will have you know this doesn’t smell of cat pee at all! Sweet vanilla cake aroma blends beautifully with pumpkin puree to soften and add creaminess all topped with a white marshmallow topping.

Cinnamon Sugar Donuts (Light Brown)Warmed dough topped with caramelized sugar and other spices

Cinnamon sugar bliss. So delicious I could eat it especially with what appears to be cinnamon adorning the top. Warms beautifully in my kitchen having my husband and I craving the cinnamon sugared candy nuts served at shows and fairs. Delicious!

Lucky Charms (Tan)-Smells just like the cereal we grew up with marshmallows and all!

I get more of an off scent Play-Doh vibe than lucky charms on cold. Maybe warmed will give me more marshmallow scent.

Pink Sheets (Pink)Pink sugar and fresh linens

I really enjoy the scent Pink Boxers from TheSmellGoodShop so I wondered if this would be a close dupe of it. Spoiler alert! It is! Such a wonderful scent that is perfect for sweet bedtime dreams. If only sweet pink sugar fabric softener could be a thing?!

A few of these I look back at the descriptions and wonder why I picked them as normally they wouldn’t be what I melt but after smelling them I am glad I went out of my comfort zone. I love them all and am excited to order again once I melt through a few of these.

Until Next Melt,

Candle Day Shenanigans

We need a button that says, We Survived Candle Day.” My husband announced after our trip to Bath and Body Works this morning. Though in all fairness, this year wasn’t as bad as previous years and I feel that is because we got there earlier.

The beginning:

I had all intentions of shopping candle day even if I decided to purchase online. Once we heard that our local store would be opening at 6 AM we planned our morning on a whim to allow Mr. Meltdown to be with me before having to go to work. We arrived to the store about 6:11 and there were already quite a few people inside while others were passing us with large bags full. One lady jokingly remarked, “Sorry, I’ve already bought them all” as she passed us while we were walking in. Everyone got a good laugh but I must admit it quickened my pace a little.

Now, we stopped in the night before to sniff everything to allow time to decide which ones I wanted and to have my list in hand for today to speed up the process. What I was nervous about was not having any coupons. Not a one was mailed to me or emailed but more on that later.

Divide and conquer:

Walking up to the wall of crates I immediately grabbed two giving Mr. Meltdown one of them in the process. Then we begin to tackle the list and have our candles picked out in no time. To the checkout line we go!
Than my indecisive self couldn’t decide if my choices on my last few candles were good ones so I went back and forth a few times as my husband stood in line.

The Line:

We got in line at 6:30. Speaking of the line, it was a never moving line.  You ever had a thought escape your mouth that should have stayed in your thoughts? Yep. Happened to me. [Remember it was early!] The words, “I’m curious why this line hasn’t moved.” Just slipped right out of my mouth.  Luckily nothing happened other than Mr. Meltdown questioning my sanity ha-ha than we continued to wait and watch. Finally as we approached being next in line, a woman turned around from the checkout and asked if I needed a coupon.

Thank you coupon angels! Hot dog! Yes! I was so appreciative to whoever had left a few coupons on the counter ahead of us but they proceeded in handing out the two that were there and I was one of the two to get one. The coupon was for a $10 off $30 which in the end would pay for a candle in itself. Twelve candles and $196 dollars in Savings later, we got back to the car at 6:58.

“Oh, Ffffudge..” Chloe N Me Candle Haul

The Christmas Story is a classic. It is a tradition in my family to have it on in the background as we go through our Christmas morning festivities. It’s special and will always have a place in my heart. So how could I resist a themed box dedicated to the movie? I knew the shapes and packaging would be adorable and guys.. I was so right. Let’s dive in so I can share with you the holiday goodness.

Side note: This vendor creates their boxes in a way that allows you to choose a base scent as a blender scent in all of the melts.  My fragrance of choice this go around was Candy Cane!

“Oh FFFudge”Candy Cane

Stay still my heart. It’s in the shape of his red soap bar! Ugh how adorable. A simple, straight candy cane yet of course with my minty loving nose it is amazing! Sweet candy pulled with fresh mint than formed into a swirled cane.

 Pink Nightmare- Cashmere Candy Cane

I don’t know if this bunny was made to look creepy on purpose to go along with the title and with Ralphie’s nightmare but if they did, they hit the nail on the head. *shudders* A soft musk and rich vanilla mingle with the minty candy cane.

Bonafide Golly Turkeycanis Freak- Twisted Candy Cane.

Without the B&BW version here to compare it, I have to go off memory on the comparison of these two. I’d have to say this is pretty close to how I remember it smelling. The fresh balsm is very crisp and mingled perfectly with the candy cane while the vanilla helps to sweeten and add depth. Beautiful and simple.

You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out, Kid- Candy Cane Tree

Oh yeah, bring on the Christmas tree scents! This is good but I’m not as sold on it as I am for my strong pine melts this time of year because this reminds of a pinesol cleaner type fragrance than a true pine tree.

Triple Dog Dare YouStraw Zucchini Candy Cane

Alright. This is a daring blend for sure especially with zucchini. I’m pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t as bad as I thought. Not a favorite but definitely not as bad as I had braced myself for. Rave review right? Sorry, let me try that again for you zucchini fans. Equally blended with fresh, juicy strawberry and a buttery rich zucchini bread with the slightest kiss of mint.

“Fragile, It’s Italian”- Candy Cane Marshmallow

Peppermint gooey sweet marshmallows. Yum!

Until Next Melt,

First Bento Wax Haul

I’ve been meaning to place an order with this vendor for awhile now but I had just never gotten around to it. I finally took the plunge and placed a small order this past pre-order mostly to get my hands on some Twilight wax and my first bit of Christmas wax of the season.

Let’s dive right in!

3 Pack Sushi Rolls & Spray

Santa’s SuitChristmas Pine, Clean Cotton, Barbershop.

Classic shaving cream mounds blended with washed linen sheets and the softest  touch of pine.

Reindeer FoodPeppermint Candy Mixed With Fresh Pine.

Winter fresh mint breathes it’s fresh breath against the branches of tall pines brustling it’s needles and giving us that crisp scent.

TwilightLavender, Ylang Ylang & Tonka Beans.

Spot on Lush type, herbal lavender sweetened and softened by ylang- ylang and tonka beans helping the lavender to be more palatable and relaxing.

Dark Sheets– Midsummers Night & Clean Cotton.

I figured this would be a winner by the scent description. In my mind the two would have blended extremely well together but something has me turned off from it. I believe it may be the Midsummers night (Yankee Candle) that could be giving it the wang of some sort that I’m not caring for on cold but of course I will let it cure and still give it a shot warmed. Very musty and old lady like to my nose so far.

Twilight Body Spray 1 oz

Smells exactly like Lush’s Twilight bath bomb poured into a body spray. The body sprays run about $9 dollars and are pretty decent sized to last awhile.

Sample:

Monster Eyes– Calacas & Juicy Purple Grapes.

Calacas Lush type which is a fruity lime candy scent with an added tartness of the purple grapes giving it a grape candy blow type feel.

All in all I am very happy with my order and would order again.

Have you ever ordered from this company? What’s your favorite?

Vintage Road Candles Autumn Bliss Sampler

Happy first day of October! Doesn’t it feel just wonderful? Something about the fall season sends all the cozy/comfy vibes to my body and gives me all the positive thoughts. I’m happy to share with you this chunkies sampler today so kick back, relax and let’s dive in! I don’t believe this sampler is still available but many of the scents are so check out her amazing goodies here

Autumn Air– Macintosh Apples, Leaves BBW Type, Eucalyptus and Spearmint Type.

Leaves lingers in the background giving off that beautiful earthy note while mac apple shines bright with the minty Spearmint and eucalyptus.

Fall FavoritesCoffee Cake, Vanilla Pumpkin Pie, Cinnamon Sugared Donuts Type.

I’ve been told that coffee cake isn’t supposed to smell like coffee, that it is supposed to just be a cake that you eat with coffee right? Well this definitely has hints of coffee along side the pumpkin pie crust and donuts.

Jam Filled Sugar Cookie Dough Bread- Raspberry/Blackberry Jam, Carmalized Pears, Sugar Cookie Dough Bread, Toasted Marshmallow, Graham Crackers.

This smells like the tart pear berry jam that you’d find filling the middle of thumbprint cookies at Christmas parties except with a graham cracker coating.

Grandma’s KitchenCinnamon Sugar Corn Pudding, Toasted Marshmallow, Zucchini Bread, Pumpkin Pecan Waffles

Cinnamon corn pudding which smells of creamy bakery and a slight bread note from the spicy zuchinni.

Blueberry Pumpkin Banana WafersBlueberry Cobbler, Pumpkin Pancakes, Banana Cream Pie and Vanilla Wafers.

Banana haters, I’m sorry. This is not a melt for you. This smells like a freshly made bowl of banana pudding that was just chilled in the fridge and topped with wafers. I believe the blueberry may come out more once melted.

Carnival Treats- Carmael Mac Apples, Funnel Cake, Cotton Candy, Candy Corn, Toasted Marshmallow and Graham Crackers.

Toasted marshmallow dominate with a crisp bite of sweet mac apple and drenched in a cinnamon funnel cake batter.

Cranberry Orange Spice CakeCranberry, Blood Orange & Gogi Berries, Gingerbread, Strudel & Spice.

Usually I love anything cranberry but this is a no go for me. Something about the tartness of the cranberry mixing with the all spice, orange and gingerbread just.. yack. It gives me a dusty like aroma at first than just very acidic towards the end. Maybe I’ll like it better warmed.

Carrot Cake– Carrot Cake, Creme Brulee, Buttercream Frosting

A very thick, rich buttercream frosted over a homemade syle carrot cake.  The brulee just kicks the sweetness up to another level.

These two blends are some of the most creative fall blends I’ve seen to date. They smell incredible!

Mr. Gosling– Leaves Type, Driftwood, Barn Wood, Toasted Marshmallow and Amber.

Leaves leaves leaves. It’s ONE of my favorite scent types this time of year so for it to be in this unique of a blend, is so exciting. Leaves has its own earthiness but added with the creamy white driftwood and golden honey amber, the only thing left is to bring it together with the toasted marshmallow for a bit of sweetness and boom you have this wonderful blend.

The Dunes- Cider Lane, Driftwood, Macintosh Apple, Sea Breeze, Cinnamon Sugared Donuts Type

Sea breeze in a fall melt!? Crazy right? But it works.. Oh does it work. The cider in cider lane and mac apple sing beautifully together. With the touch of sea breeze it deepens the blend with masculine tones and finishing off with bakery from sugared donuts types.

Sample: Blueberry Lemon Crumb Cake

Blueberry Cobbler, Lemon Pound Cake, Strudel & Spice, Creme Brulee.

All spice adorning the top of a lemon bakery confection with a slice of blueberry cobbler sitting neatly beside it to capture this aroma.

Have you got your fall melting together? Any fun samplers heading your way? Let me know!

Vintage Road Candle Sale Haul

Vintage Road Candles has been a vendor that I’ve really enjoyed buying from these past few months. This vendor has great scent blends, fun shapes and colors, affordable prices, professional labeling and packaging ect. I really have to brag on my last order because as I was unpacking it, I noticed wrapped ice packs underneath the packing peanuts to keep my order from melting at no additional charge. The extra care she puts into her customer service and each package, especially when she goes above and beyond like that, has me coming back as a repeat customer time and time again.

Avo Tea & GingerAvobath Lush Type & White Tea and Ginger

Ginger has been on my radar as of late so when I ran across this one, in the cart it went. I am soooo glad I grabbed it!! The citrus of the avo blends beautifully with the spice of the ginger. Highly recommend.

Island Fresh Gain- Island Fresh Gain Type

It’s so fresh and so clean!! Island gain that smells of clean linen. I’ll need at least 3 more bags.

Hot Buttered Bluberry Muffins- Bakery Blueberries, Hot Butter and Baked Muffin Bread.

Repurchase. This melts phenomenally. If you love blueberry muffins this is a must try! Hot from the oven blueberry muffins slathered with homemade butter. Yummmm!!

Lavender Cotton Candy-French Lavender, Cotton Candy

A lovely, sweetened lavender. Simple, but beautiful in its own way.  I’m now wondering if I need this in the large scoopable. Hmm.

Cranberry Spiced CiderSweet Cranberries, Apple Cider & Spices.

Spicy apple cider dominate which is crazy amazing because usually blends that include cranberry are usually cranberry dominate. Reminds me almost of a christmas wassle. Can’t wait to melt this on a chilly fall night sipping pipping hot tea!

Vanilla Pumpkin Smoothie- Vanilla Pumpkin Pie, Egg Nog and Vanilla Bean

This smells on point to the description. Spot on! Each ‘ingredient’ can be detected and picked out on cold sniff yet together create a delicious fall melt. The vanilla bean really brings this all together giving it that added creaminess.

Pineberry Cider- Fresh Cut Pine, Amber, Sweet Apple Cider, Berries and Pearberry

Almost medicinal on first sniff but then it sweetens out into a lovely, comforting scent. The fresh pine is blended well with the apple cider and pearberry. A perfect winter blend.

Spa Day- White Tea & Ginger, Sage, Avobath Type and Sea Breeze.

Another wonderful ginger melt yet this one is a lot stronger especially on the white tea.

Samples:

Coladax-TremePina Colada, Coconut Cream, Pineapple and Volcano Capri Blur Type

This melt demands attention and will not be ignored. The pineapple gives it an acidic bite while the coconut cream and pina colada comes in to sweeten while keeping with the tropical theme. I’m unfamiliar with Volcano Capri Blur Type but I can tell there is an added something extra than just a fruity, tropical drink.
Blueberry Pumpkin Banana WafersBlueberry Cobbler, Pumpkin Pancakes, Banana Cream Pie, Vanilla Wafers

Banana cream pie hits the nose first followed by crushed vanilla wafers. Tart blueberries are the next note to be detected but I’m not picking up on pumpkin on cold.

Have you ordered with this vendor? What has been your favorite? Let me know!!

Until Next Melt,

Super Tarts Replenishment- Another Order!

Good Witch: (Repurchase)- Magically Delicious & White Clouds

Tinman: (Repurchase)- Pink Sugar, sweet lavender cream and stainless steel. (A Go To Sleep blend)

I’ve said it once I’ll say it again, both of these are just amazing and worth keeping on hand. Good Witch is unique with it’s light bakery tones blending with an airy linen right off the line. Who would have thought those would have blended so well altogether?

Tin man is just.. I’m speechless. The perfect bedtime or after work relaxing melt. Sweet candied, lavender cream blended with pink sugar and a cologne note giving it that masculine “stainless steel” essence.

Cold OnesIcy Menthol

A new to me scent but the word Menthol had me sold. I was in the middle of some serious congestion as I was shopping for this haul so I figured this would have been perfect thinking it would resemble Vicks or an icy mint but it wasn’t what I expected it to be. It isn’t  as powerful or strong as I’d like it to be on the mint but we will see how it performs on warm.

All the ginger!

MetropolisSugared Dusted Ginger Root and Fresh Mint

As Blanche would say, “Just Goregous Goregeous,Gorgeous!” This smells amazing on cold with that fresh mint and a little heat from the spicy ginger. Very unique and wonderful.

Brave– sweet cakes and a slight note of Earl Grey tea

Interesting.. Very intersting. On cold this isn’t bad. Sweet, a little kick from the ginger while also having a hint of black tea. We will see how this plays out! I’m hoping it doesn’t turn into a strong tea and cakes blend.

Mr. Myers: Fresh fallen leaves, Fireside and vanilla Bean Noel

Fireside smokieness toned down by the sweetness and creaminess of the VBN. I’m excited to dive into this one to see of that fresh fallen leaves comes out more once warmed. It’s really as good on cold as everyone says it is so if you see this in stock and are one to enjoy fireside blends, scoop this one up!

Jess: Rose jam, peppermint, leather bound books (Repurchase)

A favorite of my husband’s as he loves himself some leather scents. A very strong leather fragrance that overpowers the other two peppermint and rose jam scent notes.

Have you ordered anything from Super Tarts lately? Any favorites you’d recommend? Let me know!

Until Next Melt!

Small ScentSationals Wax Haul

Retail wax: ScentSational/Better Homes & Gardens aka Wal-Mart Wax is I’m sure where most of us waxies first dipped our toes into the water of wax melts. It’s where we first began and where we continue to return to for affordable dependable wax fixes especially come fall! This past weekend I made a quick trip to Wal-Mart looking for fall melts which of course they didn’t have out yet. Did I walk out empty handed? Of course not! All but two are ScentSationals, the others are Better Homes & Gardens.

Vanilla Bean Value Pack– 12 cubes of vanilla creaminess. Not to be mistaken with Vanilla Cookie Crunch from BH&G, as it has more of a vanilla bakery while VB is more cream and true vanilla. My plan for this is to try blending it with other scents to achieve that extra creaminess I want in my melts. I have really been enjoying ice cream in my vendor wax so I’m excited to see how this compares.

Strawberries and Cream– A favorite of mine that is great melting alone or blends well with many other melts. Sweet cream and tart candied strawberries.

Calypso Sands-Ocean mist and light aquatic florals with only a kiss of honeydew to sweeten this melt.

Caribbean Sea Breeze- Strong coconut and ocean waves reminding me more of a perfume than rolling tides.  Though this would go nice im the bedroom during the summer.

White Sandlewood
Manly, outdoorsy, cologne type.

Fruit Medley-

Smells exactly like it’s named. A fresh, sweet mix of tart fruits. Citrus and kiwi dominate.

What are some of your favorite retail wax scents?

American Home Wax Melts-Yankee Candle

If you’ve been a follower of mine for any length of time, you have probably heard of my luck with Yankee products or as I call it the Yankee Curse. Candles and tarts from this company just do not preform well for me. When I heard that the company had changed up a few things this year including the formula on a few of their products I thought I would give them another shot. That is when I picked up a handful of tarts and a candle (which I will be reviewing in another post) at my local Wal-Mart from their American Home collection.

Product: 2.6 oz , 6 shot clamshell

Price: $3.58

Warmer Used: Glade 20W.

The directions call to use one ‘shot’ or round at a time.

“An island fruit cocktail of tangy oranges and pineapple, sweet mango and peaches, and soft white coconut — just add a warm ocean breeze and a colorful umbrella”

This smells strangely familiar. Sugary and familiar. I believe it to be the same scent of Tropical Twist Trident Gum. Very good and throws wonderfully. I would repurchase this one.

The fresh, outdoor scent of a lazy afternoon lying beneath the trees and staring at the sunlit leaves above”

This threw like a beast! At first it almost burned my nose and throat but it mellowed out more as it melted. Very clean like dial soap or shampoo type with maybe a hint of bamboo leaves.

A refreshing mix of fresh citrus with a dash of red cherry that puts a sweet face on the hottest summer day”

Cherry slushie topped with a slice of citrus fruit chilled and forming a layer of ice crystals over the top and side of the glass

Overall I am happy with the results. I can report back that all of these threw very strong for several hours. It is so great to finally get good performance from a Yankee brand! Not to mention the ease of purchase to just walk into a Wal-Mart and grab them off the shelf.

Have you tried any fragrances from the American Home collection?

Until Next Melt,

The Bathing Garden Sleepy Bundle-

If you’ve been a reader or a follower on my Instagram for any length of time you know I really enjoy my peppermint blends especially for nighttime melting. Mixed with pink sugar or lavender you’ve got me hooked for sure. I’ve heard many rave reviews on The Bathing Garden’s Sleepy so when the scent came available in a bundle for a scent of a month; In the cart it went!

SleepyPink Sugar, Peppermint and Vanilla.

The bundle included a clamshell, flower shaped melt, aloe butter whipped soap and an aloe butter sugar scrub for $18.25 with $7.50 shipping.

Those sprinkles though! Condensed, granulated sugar whipped to perfection with creamy aloe butter to soften and moisturize the skin. The sleepy smell is very light but once used I believe it will be more dominate.

I’ve never had a whipped soap so I wasn’t sure on what the consistency would be like. Shannons aloe butter soap is very, very thick and tacky on first touch/poke. Not much of a Sleepy smell, only picking up on the formulation of the soap. I scooped out a small quarter sized piece that more resembled a putty (silly putty maybe?) and tried it for the first time. It had softening and great lather result yet its constancy is so thick if not rubbed in all the way pieces fall to the floor of the shower in chunks.

Samples:

Summer in a Jar Mango Butter Sugar Scrub-

Strongest smelling of the scrubs on cold I’ve tried so far which smells of delicious mango juice.

BlackBerry Jam & Lemon Curd-  This is beautiful, wonderful even. I really want to melt it with a laundry melt. Lemon curd dominate with notes of tart blackberry.

Pumpkin Pie Spice- Whew wee! This is strong true spice. I’m wondering if pumpkin spice is what is dusting the top of the melt. Careful smelling this as some of the dust went right up my nose.

Haunted Hayride-

A farmstand apple and strands of freshly rolled haybales. Really good, I think this one will be a repurchase for me.

Have you tried the sleepy scent? Are you gearing up for Shannons Halloween Collection?
